Dual degree admission information session for the University of Melbourne Law School, Australia

The College of Law is dedicated to promoting international academic exchanges. Owing to Professor Yu-An Hsu for making connections, we began discussing and promoting a dual degree collaboration with Melbourne Law School earlier this year. On October 24, 2024, we welcomed Associate Dean and Professor Jianlin Chen from Melbourne Law School to conduct an information session with our faculty and students. Prior to the event, Professor Chen interacted with Dean Yueh-Hung Hou, Associate Dean Hsiao-Wei Kuan, Professor Yu-An Hsu, Associate Professor Ren-Chuan Kevin Kao, and Associate Professor Bo-Shone Fu.

Founded in 1853, the University of Melbourne is the second oldest university in Australia and is consistently ranked among the top 50 universities worldwide in the QS World University Rankings. Alongside the Australian National University and the University of Sydney, it is one of the most prestigious academic institutions in Australia. The University of Melbourne has accumulated a stellar reputation in academic fields such as social sciences, law, and humanities. It offers students a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum, encourages interdisciplinary learning, and aims to enhance students' employability.

During the information session, Professor Chen let students share their career considerations. He approached the topic from the perspectives of financial gain, time investment, and résumé enhancement, emphasizing that learning new things is one of the most beneficial, lifelong investments with lasting impacts on one's future. He encouraged students to seize the opportunity to experience a new country and its diverse cultural and educational environment. The dual degree agreement provides a pathway to accelerate obtaining a degree while reducing its duration. However, students should be aware of the challenges they may face, as studying abroad is not an easy task and requires a certain level of language proficiency. He urged students to continuously improve their language skills. Professor Chen also highlighted that Australia is a multicultural society with high inclusivity toward different ethnic groups and cultures. Australian diplomas are widely recognized globally and can significantly enhance future career prospects and work experience. It is hoped that through this information session, students will have the opportunity to interact directly with international faculty members and reflect on their career development during the process.
