In the face of rapid technological development and advancements, many criminal methods have become increasingly difficult to prosecute. One of the most crucial legal issues of our time is how countries can use technology to investigate crimes while avoiding excessive infringement on human rights. Associate Professor Shih-Fan Wang of the Law School invited the renowned Professor Helmut Satzger from the domestic criminal law community to share his insights with students on March 17, 2023. Professor Satzger focused on the impact of the European Convention on Human Rights as a legally binding treaty for many countries in Europe. Besides, Professor Satzger introduced the influence of determining judgments on European Court as well. At the conclusion of the lecture, Professor Satzger also encouraged students not only to pursue expertise in their fields but also to stirve for academic excellence.
The Faculty of Law at the University of Munich is an important international partner for our law school. Last year, we renewed our academic exchange agreement with them. Before the lecture, Associate Professor Shih-Fan Wang, along with Professor Helmut Satzger, and Frau Satzger, engaged in discussions with our Dean Yueh-Hung Hou, Professor Sheng-Wei Tsai and Professor Yu-An Hsu. The interaction aimed to deepen and invigorate future exchanges and dialogues between the both sides in all aspects.
